Kikumu is an annual international cultural festival in Jäneda, Lääne-Virumaa, which combines cinema, contemporary art, music, architecture and an educational program. The festival takes place in and around the former modernist academic building created by Valve Pormeistri and is distinguished by its unique location, interdisciplinary format and international reach.
The goal of the festival is to develop Kikumu into an internationally renowned cultural brand that increases the visibility of Estonia as a creative cultural land, brings foreign tourists outside of Tallinn, strengthens regional development and creates lasting international cooperation networks.
As a result of the project, the international recognition and number of visitors of the festival will increase, the share of foreign tourists and Estonia’s tourism revenue will increase, the involvement of local businesses in the region will be strengthened, an international cooperation platform will be developed and the visibility of major Estonian cultural events in the international media will improve.
Kikumu will receive support from the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Foundation (EIS) within the framework of the “International Major Events” application round for organizing the festival and implementing the aforementioned goals in 2025–2028. The amount of the grant is 231,168 euros.
